Still riding as much as I can several times a week.

Remote Ride Options

The Cycling Seniors sometimes do remote rides, i.e. rides that do not follow the Lakeshore path.  We generally pick routes that allow participants to take public transportation to the start and finish locations — they aren’t always the same.

Here are a few such rides either from the past or at the suggestion of the group:

  • Botanical Garden beginning and ending at Caldwell Woods
  • Beginning at North Avenue Beach, our usual start point, to the Botanical Garden via the North Channel Trail and the North Branch Trail, return via train. Specifically, Lake Front trail to Argyle, Local streets to River Park, where we join North Channel Trail to Church St in Evanston and subdivision streets to North Branch Trail near Golf Rd, NB trail to Bot Garden, where we could have lunch. Then a short ride on Lake Cook Rd to Braeside Metro station. About 25 miles of riding, hardly any busy streets.
  • Joliet Iron Works – I&M Canal from Joliet to the Isle du Cache Museum north of Lockport and back
  • Robert McClory/North Shore Bike Path from the Highland Park train station to Great Lakes and back
  • The Old Plank Road Trail from Matteson to Joliet
  • Train north as far as Racine/Kenosha and south as far as we can go
  • Train to Libertyville and Des Plaines River Trail south
  • I&M Canal Channahon to Morris and back
  • Lemont to Isle du Cache and return
  • Argonne National Lab trails
  • Indiana Dunes
  • Overnight around Starved Rock
  • Beginning at the South Shore Cultural Center (ride or take bus) and head to East Chicago and return
  • The Indiana Trail Ramble:  Burnham Greenway to Lansing, Erie Lakawanna Trail to Trail to Crown Point, Oak Savannah Trail to Hobart, and Duneland Trail to Chesterton
  •  Western trails, Great Western Trail, Fox River Trail to name a few. We could ride around Fermi Labs and see birds and bison and stop by Two Brothers Taproom in Warrenville

Tuesdays at 10:30

The Senior Cyclers and Gourmet Club meet Thursday mornings at 10:30 am.  When it’s bicycle weather we usually gather at the North Avenue Beach for a ride up or down the Lakefront path with a lunch before we turn around to head home.  When the weather is not so nice we meet at a coffee shop near Millenium Park for a walk.
